Oh doesn't that title sound up beat!
There are a few staple tools that the hardened hair dyer will/should have handy to make things run smoothly and with minimal mess. Most can be bought pretty cheaply but will save a fortune in washing powder, new towels and bleach for the floors, walls and ceilings. Yes I once found dye on the ceiling of my Victorian high ceilinged bathroom!!
Gloves – You just can’t have enough of them. A lot of the colour dyes like Directions, Manic Panic and Crazy Colours don’t supply them and those that do, include those loose fitting plastic bag like gloves that cause more damage than good. I use the black piercing gloves as they give really good movement so you can feel your hair properly and lets be honest, black just looks cool. Black Gloves
Brush - Its always advisable to get a good brush to put on your bleach, sectioning your hair out and dying is made so much easier with this tool and gives a much more even result. Just google "Hair dye brush" you can pick then up for a pound or two from loads of places.
Bowl - Obvious to some but not others. I ALWAYS transfer my bleaches and dyes to a bowl before putting them on, giving them a good mix too. Think of them as yoghurts, when you first open them they have watery bits at the top and thick bits stuck to the top of the lid, same goes for dyes. They need a good mix up when you first open them to make sure that the dye will go on evenly, plus it makes it easier to apply if you aren't trying to get liquid from a small bottle or tub. Make sure you have a bowl set to one side that you can keep using for this purpose, a hard wearing plastic one is best but don't eat your cereal out of it and wash it separately to other bowls.
Towels/Tshirts - This is going to be a messy process, however well prepared you are. So make sure that whatever towels and tshirts you use, arent going to be ones your mother will kill you for using or were an expensive present etc. I have three or four that I use, and they are washed separately to any whites. Equally with Tshirts, don't go wearing your favourite vintage woodstock hand me down tshirt as it WILL get ruined. Best scenario I have found is to have one large towel on the floor, one small towel to tuck into your tshirt whilst applying and they to wrap around your head whilst dye is on and an old Tshirt that can take a bit of ruining.
Now you should be all set, oh....don't forget the dyes!
